OO 01: empty space and time: 2007

The vacuum of emotion between love and the disconnect. The vast and lonely in-between of needing someone who no longer needs you. Of needing a version of myself that hasn’t been forged in the firmament yet. The limbo of wondering where I went off course. This is the empty space and time of floating in the visceral nothingness of hanging on, letting go, and learning to flow. Welcome to OSTARA ORION.

This was recorded with producer Daniel Lenz in Los Angeles in 2007.

OO 02: The Journey: 1998

“The journey of the hero is about the courage to seek the depths; the image of creative rebirth; the eternal cycle of change within us; the uncanny discovery that the seeker is the mystery which the seeker seeks to know. The hero journey is a symbol that binds two distant ideas: the spiritual quest of the ancients with the modern search for identity… always the one shape-shifting yet marvelously constant story that we find.” -Joseph Campbell

Recorded and arranged by the incredibly talented Steve Tanner in Gilbert, Arizona in 1998.

OO 03: Coming Home: 2006

I wrote this song around 2004 after I heard a story about a girl who sent her husband off to war and he never came home. It’s infused with my own feelings of yearning and longing for a love that feels like home. I performed this song with my band Bella Swank throughout 2005, and then recorded this solo version when I thought going solo was a better, safer option. Whether that was right or wrong, it’s what happened, and now I am piecing together all the music we made together and apart. Sometimes the story of the music writes itself.

Lyrics and music by Summer Brighton, recorded in Provo, Utah in 2006.

OO 04: Lucid Dreams Of Spirit Guides: 2009

“Our darkness holds the secret to our light.” -Debbie Ford

This song is about doing shadow work. I was a student of spiritual guide and author Debbie Ford who wrote many books including The Dark Side of the Light Chasers. At her seminars and retreats, she used to do this guided meditation with us where we would go down an elevator 7 stories and exit into our own garden where we would find a place to sit and be visited by messengers and spirit guides within. I have had some life-changing meditations this way and I am forever a student of Debbie’s work. She was a student of the works of Carl Jung who pioneered so much of what we understand about integrating our dark and light sides to become whole, and our modern recovery programs.

Lyrics, music, and arrangement by Summer Brighton, recorded in San Diego, California in 2009.

OO 05: Pools Of Gaia: 1998

A love song for Mother Earth and an ode to her bodies of water, large and small. I love being in the ocean, in lakes, in rivers, in pools and bathtubs and hot tubs, just let me float, just let me flow.

Lyrics and music by Summer Brighton. Recorded and arranged by Steve Tanner in Gilbert, Arizona in 1998.

OO 06; Synchro-Vous; Grapes Of Jade 2009

This song is about reconnecting with loved ones after death no matter where they are or what they become. I think it’s my favorite song I’ve ever written. The first line of the chorus is from Sufi poet Rumi’s line: We come spinning out of nothingness, scattering stars like dust.

In 2009, I was in a duo called Grapes Of Jade with an insanely talented acoustic guitar player, Cari. I will be releasing all of our material later this year, but Synchro-Vous completely aligned with the vision of OSTARA ORION.

Lyrics and music by Summer Brighton, guitar arrangement by Cari Walker, recorded in San Diego, California in 2009.

OO 07: Goddess: 1998

If life is a journey of love, loss, and personal progress, and matter cannot be destroyed or created, only transformed, then we came from somewhere before and we’re going somewhere after, whether we know or understand what that looks like or not. This song is a vision of eternal progression, a prayer to be one with the cosmos, to be of highest and best use in this life and beyond. Carl Sagan said: The cosmos is within us. We are made of star-stuff. We are a way for the universe to know itself.

Lyrics and music by Summer Brighton. Recorded and arranged by Steve Tanner in Gilbert, Arizona in 1998.
