Meditate with me.
The words are simple, the energy divine, take 5 minutes and 55 seconds to go inside.
Words: Flow like a river, Grow like a tree
Oh Ganga Ji Ganga Ji Om
Give like a river, Live like a tree
How did this song come to be? On the first day of Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training, we were each asked to stand and state a word or phrase to set our intention for our time at the ashram in Rishikesh. The windows behind the teachers let in sunshine through the green tops of the trees along the banks of the river Ganga below. You could hear Mama Ganga flowing, giving life to all creatures, and teaching us to surrender to the life force that flows through all things. When I stood to state my intention I said: Flow like a river, Grow like a tree.
A couple weeks into the training, through synchronistic events, I was asked to help with the music for a kirtan and cacao ceremony on a rooftop overlooking Ganga. This is how I met Julien and Pram. We all met that evening and played music together for the first time. A couple days later, we met on the steps next to the river where we met Georgios, and travel blogger Monica captured the photos and videos of the four of us playing music together for the first time. In this magical, musical mixture of humanity is where Flow Like a River, Grow Like a Tree became a song. It would not exist without the connection with these wonderful beings.
It is meant to meditate to, to feel what it means to flow like a river and trust that life is taking you exactly where you need to be, and giving you exactly what you need to grow into the next version of yourself. We are always growing, always flowing, the journey never ends, it only transcends.
What does Ganga Ji mean? Ganga is the name of the Ganges River that runs through India, and the name of the Hindu Goddess that personifies the river. To add "Ji" after a name is to assign honor and respect; you would add after the name of a teacher or a guru.
What does Om mean? OM or AUM is the primordial sound and vibration of the universe. Of creation. All form is sound and vibration. It is both a sacred mantra to use in prayer and meditation, and a symbol of oneness and ultimate reality.
